More Local Information
Poggio Le Stalle was reputedly the oldest cattle farm in the locality of Amelia. It lies in the heart of Umbria which is the greenest region of Italy, with many delights to attract the discerning traveller. Lying only 90 kilometers from Rome and within easy reach of many famous medieval hillside towns Amelia is still off the well beaten tourist track. Its Cyclopean walls reputedly predate the walls of Rome.
We have converted the farmhouse with love and great attention to detail and enjoy sharing it with our guests and have many testimonies to show this. Early booking is essential.

Poggio Le Stalle's location offers complete anonymity, well hidden in the mediterranean scrub forests, set back off the beaten track, outside a traditional Umbrian village,Macchie, known for it's excellent cuisine and traditional foods such as wild boar, funghi and truffles. A secluded hideaway that lies close to the known delights of Umbria: good food and the cultural delights found in hillside towns such as Spoleto, Orvieto, Narni, Todi, Assisi, Deruta (famouse for it's pottery) Foligno and other less known towns like Giove,Lungano and Amelia. Rome is only 90 kilometres away.
The Umbrian people are known for being hard workers, for their lack of pretentions and their warm hospitality. This is particularly so in Amelia and in our village Macchie, known in the locality for its traditional cooking of game, their cold cuts, tasty sausage and polenta dishes.
We bought Le Stalle almost 20 years ago and have since then been painstakingly involved in developing it into a special country reatreat. Its spacious accomodation ensures a stress free, tranquil and reinvigorating holiday. Some call it a sanctuary, a true hideaway where the chaos and demands of daily lives melt into the calming views which stretch to the Terminillo mountain range. The houses are warm and welcoming, with origional art work and an eclectic mixture of antique and local furniture. Guests consistently say they sleep well here and leave feeling refreshed and reinvigorated after their tranquil but fun stay. we have many guests who keep returning each year.
Our guests are mainly those who are seeking a relaxed, tranquil location and rural setting. They enjoy the opportunity to visit different cultural sites, explore Umbrian hillside towns and then return home to the warm comfortable setting of Le Stalle. The three houses on the property mean large family groups and friends can enjoy their time together while still being able to take time apart.
Le Stalle has hosted family gatherings, groups of close friends and others celebrating their weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and other fesitivites.
The houses are also rented separately so early booking is necessary if all three houses are needed
