A short walk reveals a town full of happy surprises - leafy squares and elegant boulevards adjoin the narrow streets of the picturesque old town, ancient battlements overlook modern sunworshippers around the lagoon, the medieval chateau and cathedral look over Fort Carré which used to protect Port Vauban, now the most lavish marina on the Riviera.
Friendly restaurants and bars abound, and the town centre offers a multitude of excellent shops plus three supermarkets. Regular markets sell local produce as well as crafts and bric-à-brac. Towards the east are the Siesta Club, Marineland, casino and fun parks, to the south the exclusive Cap d'Antibes, and westwards you find Juan-les-Pins, a modern offshoot of Antibes with its own distinct character.
A favourite with those who know the Cote d'Azur, Antibes has all the advantages of easy access, a wonderful climate and first-rate facilities while remaining quite unabashed by its louder neighbours.
