Holiday villa, Lou Capitani, is actually an old Provençal 'mas' restored as a much loved family home in 1965 and completely renovated in 2004. Its ideal location with morning shade and amazing sunsets, 5 miles from the sea with easy access to Bandol AOC wine producers and many out-door activities: trekking, swimming, scuba-diving, windsurfing, sailing, hang-gliding, mountain-biking, golf, boules (or 'pétanque'), etc. The garden is being developed experimentally as a dry or waterless garden. Only potted plants require a little evening watering in the hot summer.

More Local Information
'My mother's castle', as I like to think of Lou Capitani, because it was her dream and creation, provided several generations of our family with the perfect holiday home. It is still full of many books, objects, art works and things she, we and our children are familiar with. These command a certain respect. Of course the seclusion of the house implies that a car or some means of motorised locomotion is necessary. Le Castellet village is an old medieval village, as is La Cadière d'Azur with more local life. Both of these are overlooked by Lou Capitani. There are many wine-tasting opportunities: Domaines Ott, Tempier, Pibarnon, Galantin, Chateau Ste Anne, Castillon and the Coopérative de La Cadière, La Cadiérenne. Golf is avialable at La Frégate 18 hole golf-course, on the road from Bandol to St Cyr sur Mer, where a gilded statue of Liberty stands in the main square! (The sculptor who designed it came from St Cyr).

Airports and other international transport Best airport to fly to is Toulon-Hyères. It is closest, about 35 minutes away, served by Ryanair, Air One and Air France and has all car hire facilities. Next best: Marseille-Marignane, about an hour away if you do not get lost in Marseille. Then: Nice, just under 2 hours away. If you are coming from Rome, there is a ferry from Civitavecchia to Toulon: overnight trip with GLD Lines, accommodation ok from €39 but bad food! Take a picnic. Trains to Toulon are good too (TGV 4.5 hours from Paris) and car hire available at station. Book in advance.

Wonderful day-trips to be enjoyed around Lou Capitani: massif La Sainte Baume, where St Mary Magdalen is supposed to have died and been buried; Abbey of le Thoronet, one of the most beautiful Cistercian abbeys built in the mid 12th century; 9th century remnants of castle of Evenos within which there is a village (very close); Le Beausset Vieux, the above-mentioned hermitage, also very close. Of course, Aix, Arles, Avignon and Nimes are within easy reach.

Pleasures can be found by the sea. Sandy beaches at St Cyr-Les Leques, rocky creeks at Port d'Alon and famous 'calanques' between Cassis and Marseille, where climbers come for vertical rock faces. Can be visited by boat from Bandol, which also offers sea game fishing, scuba-diving lessons and trips, wind-surfer and sailing boat rental. Excellent restaurants: La Grange, Le Beausset L'Amiral, Bandol
