Dalyan DeltaDalyan has a river which passes between the Mediterranean and Köyceg Lake which winds its way to the sea.Each morning as a fleet of colourful painted boats chug off down the river carrying holidaymakers to the glorious sandy beaches at the mouth of the river delta. Starting from Dalyan Harbour the voyage through beds of bulrushes and pampas grass takes around 45 enjoyable minutes. The Delta is a protected National Conservation area and is home to over 100 species of birds and three varieties of turtles. You meet to Mediterranean after around 30-40 minutes and meet the Iztuzu sandbar which stretches for six km and divivedes thwe delta. There you can spend the day on the fine sandy beach and swim in the turquoise sea. There is also a minibus service which takes about 15-20 minutes. Both routes are worth seeing and both are inexpensive. Dalyan TownBesides the beach Dalyan has much to offer. You may elect to relax around their villa or apartment pool in the morning then stroll along the river or in to the village in search of a tranquil spot to take lunch.In the cooler evening air you can once again walk the riverbank to settle in a waterside restaurant. The fish in Dalyan is excellent. And taking a cool beer in the setting sun as it casts shadows over the nearby rock tombs is a delight. If you need night life there a many clubs open till late but the main street through the resort offers more than enough bars and restaurants to keep you entertained. But essentially Dalyan provides a holiday rich in peace and quiet, history and culture and close to nature. It has something for all but mainly provides a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Dalyan Mud BathsDalyan has many therapeutic hot springs. The waters contain sulphur and are believed to help disorders like rheumatism, as well as being beneficial for nervous and digestive disorders. The mud baths are also said to cleanse and beautify the skinThe Sultaniye Thermal Bath which is famous in Turkey is has a temperature of 40C and has been used since Hellenistic times. It's great fun!. Firste you cover yourself in the mud, then you wait for few minutes to dry it. Then it's into the sulpher pool to clean yourself. Anciant Caunos and its AmphitheatreThe ancient city of Caunos grew on the border between Lycia and Caria. Caunos had a particular culture was an independent city state.The city sprawls over a broad slope overlooking the sea and delta. At Caunos there is an Acropolis surrounded by the city walls, a 1500 seat theatre, Four temples, an agora, shops, harbour and a Roman bath and cistern. You can visit Caunos at any time. To get there you first have to cross the channel via in a rowing boat, then it's a 10 minutes walk to the city. Caunos can also be visited as part of a daily boat tour. Dalyan Rock ToumbsTheses tombs are the resting places the kings of Caunos. They are carved in the style of Lycian rock tombs on the rock faces of the river gorge. There are Dalyan has toumbs like simple simple chambers, cut in to the rock face like a room and but has more elaborate temple tombs with elaborate entrances. Many tombs were built with hidden cavities behind which, hidden treasures were stored as a legacy to the dead but these have long since been plundered. Rock tombs can be seen along the Lycian coast, but best exemples of them are in Dalyan.The Caretta Caretta TurtleThe Caretta Caretta turtle protected species List. These turtles with their large heads and reddish brown shells come to Iztuzu Beach to nest from May to September. They have yellowish to white undersides and can measure up to 3-4 feet in length. The turtle reaches maturity around 15 years of age, they can weigh between 150 and 300 pounds. Adult turtles are meet in the lake of Dalyan Delta a few weeks before the female lays her eggs where they fee before mating. The female chooses a mate and mating takes some but their sounds can be heard from far away.The Caretta Caretta Turtle, return to the beach where they themselves were hatched. The adult female may lay several clutches each season, usually she will lay eggs every two or three years. Microlight Flight over the Dalyan DeltaSince 2002, microlight flights fly over Dalyan. It's fantastic to trip to fly by microlight and to see the whole Dalyan area from the sky in the open and fresh air. Although the well experienced and friendly pilots have a lot of daily flights, they are never get bored to see this natural paradise everyday. The pilots act as guides and will tell you all about the local area.The Dalyan people now organize a festival to thank to Caretta Caretta sea turtles each year, which starts on the 29th of June and lasts 3 days. Some of local groups and famous singers of Turkey come to Dalyan for festival. They walk in the streets with their old style cotumes, put on shows, dancing and contesting. There are also watersports on the beach on the first of July. this includes the funny oily pole game where people try to climb the oily pole to retrieve a flag from end of the pole but slip and fall into the sea. And duiring the night, Dalyan stadium puts on concerts. You can sit on the grass or stand seats and listen to local music or pop songs. the days finish with fireworks and it's all free. | ||||
